Brief Overview of DSRQ
Deaf Sports & Recreation Queensland (DSRQ) was established in 1999. We cater for the needs of the Deaf Sports and Recreation and supporting their sports and recreational objectives. DSRQ respects the cultural and language perspective of the Deaf community and provides services to assist Deaf people in achieving equal of access to sports and recreation.
DSRQ is a not-for-profit organisation promoting sport and recreation access for Deaf, hearing impaired, and hard of hearing Queenslanders, whether they use speech, sign language, hearing aids or bionic (cochlear) implant.
The DSRQ Head Office is located in Stafford, Brisbane, but we support all Deaf sports and recreation clubs around Queensland and in each of the major centres of Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.
Members currently include Deaf Anglers, Deaf Basketball, Deaf Cricket, Deaf Darts, Deaf Lawn Bowls, Deaf Tenpin Bowling, Deaf Soccer, Deaf Board Riders Qld, Deaf Senior Citizens Group, Deaf Club Gold Coast.
DSRQ receives support from Sports & Recreation Queensland, however, DSRQ also relies on fundraising functions, special events and sponsors in order to provide and maintain its services.
The Board of Management of DSRQ is responsible for all the activities of DSRQ. DSRQ consists of not more than 8 elected members, both Deaf and hearing.
DSRQ conducts its affairs in accordance with the Commonwealth Disability Services Act and the Queensland Disability Services Act 1992, and adheres to the guidelines and policies set down by these Acts.
