Australia Open bowls championships Darebin International Sports, Thornbury Vic
Gail Dellar of Mooloolaba Bowls Club and Ken Balfe of Booval Swifts Bowls Club, Ipswich, and members of the Queensland Deaf Lawn Bowls Association were selected to represent Bowls Queensland to play in the Australia Disabled Bowls championships (Deaf section) held at the Darebn International Sports Centre, Thornbury Victoria. Ken Balfe withdrew from the team at the last minute.
Other states were also represented by their Deaf bowlers, were Victoria and West Australia.
The competition for the Deaf bowlers was a mixed competition due to lack of Deaf entries to the Australia Disabled Open.
The winner of the mixed Deaf section was David Ralvich of West Australia and runner up was Micheal Barca of Victoria. Gail Dellar of Queensland would have taken the Gold medal for the womens section if the rest of the states have entered in the Disabled Open bowls competition.
Congratulations to Gail for her sporting performance against the men and achieving good experience in this type of open disabled bowls competition for the first time.
