Deaf Sports Day a Huge Success!

Long jump deaf sports day 2010

19th June 2010 - Wow we had a great day! Thank you to their parents for bringing them to Deaf Sports Day! Most of the children came dressed in the colour of thier house team. It was great to see them getting into the spirit of the day. The volunteers from DSRQ and Gold Coast Little Athletics Club were fabulous, thank you all for your help. Without our wonderful volunteers there would be no deaf sports day. We liked the new venue at Pizzey Park on the Gold Coast.

Victorian Emergancy Alert System

alarm

An American research team is conducting a research study to determine how effective the emergency alert system is for Deaf and hard of hearing Victorians. As part of our project, they are conducting interviews and surveys to try and determine the satisfaction level of the Deaf and hard of hearing population with the current system. This will help them to identify improvements that can be made.

Please answer this survey to help the research:

Deaf Club

Brisbane Deaf Club Opening

It was great to see so many people come out to Deaf Club on the 19th of February in Brisbane. It has been many years since everyone met all together for Deaf Club. DSRQ and QAD thought that it was important to have a place where all the Deaf could meet. Mount Gravatt show ground community hall was a great venue.
142 people came to Deaf Club. It was fantastic to see everyone socializing and catching up with new and old friends. All money collected at the door goes to the hire of the hall to keep Deaf Club going.

Welcome to DSRQ's website.  I would like to express enormous thanks to Sports & Recreation Queensland for their sponsoring of this website, without them, we wouldn't survive.

This website, with access to information and events, is of great benefit for everybody. There will be more opportunities coming up in the near future for people to be involved in all clubs in this website.

Knowledge of the events can help you get out more and it will be very good for your mind, body and spirit.

Christmas Social

Percy Bates and Young Athletes

DSRQ's Annual Christmas Break Up was held on the 11th December at the Plough Inn. We all had a great time catching up with everyone at the Plough Inn. About 200 people turned up to celebrate Christmas with DSRQ's Board and Staff. Percy Bates was there chatting with everyone including deaf young people. It was great opportunity for deaf young sports persons to meet him, as he is one of our legends in sport.

Check out the photos from the night:

Deaf Festival 2009

Congratulation to QAD for this event.  They did a brilliants job to make this events and they are marvellous with a very short amount of volunteers.  Thank you to QAD and volunteers for the hard work to make this event very enjoyable.  It's great way to meet old friends or make new friends.  Thank you to Fiona (DSRQ Administration Assistant) for being very creative to make DSRQ look so colourful.

Deaf Sports Day 2009

Deaf Sports Day 2009 kicked off on the 12th September at Runcorn State High School. Over 40 Deaf Children from all over Queensland registered to compete in this annual event hosted by Deaf Sports and Recreation Queensland (DSRQ).

Just like any athletics day but with one huge difference, no starting gun. Flashing starting blocks or flags are used to signal the start of the races. Children competed in Track and Field events including athletics, high jump, discus and the famous Tug of War!

Regional Tour – successful with positive feedback

Julie, Brad and Bernie (Auslan Interpreter) on Tour

We travelled hundreds of kilometres from Cairns to Hervey Bay using DSRQ car. DSRQ car has touched many places. We took many great photos.

We enjoyed meeting the deaf and hearing impaired students with big smiles and giggles. We also met the deaf indengious people. Cairns deaf indengious still dancing, which is great to know that they still continue doing this.  They will be coming to Brisbane for the Deaf and Mental Health Congress from 28th October till 30th October and Deaf Festival on 31st October.
